Saunton Golf Club, East Course

Situated 9 km west of Bamstaple on the Saunton Sands, Nr Braunton in North Devon coast near Barnstable, England, United Kingdom. The Saunton Golf Club, East Course is a traditional links course and is by all interpretations the hard-hitting of the two private, links golf courses at Saunton Golf Club. It is recognised as one of the greatest mature championship links in the World. The other is the Saunton Golf Club, West Course.

The East Course is a par 71 golf course and plays to about 6,779 yards, 200 more yards than the ordinary golf course. Saunton Golf Club was formed in May 1897. It was designed by W. Herbert Fowler.

Saunton Golf Club, East Course has been in existence for over a century now. It was originally a 9 hole golf course but was extended to 12 holes in 1906 and to an 18 hole in 1908. It has sure stood the test of time. It lived through the 1st World War in 1914 and the 1939 2nd World War.

Saunton Golf Club, East Course has held major amateur championships, remarkably the 1937 English Amateur Championship where John Jacob Frank Pennink was triumphant. The East Course is ranked number 32 in the Golf World "Top 100 Courses".

The East Course at Saunton Golf Club is home to the most prestigious amateur championship. It is the scheduled host venue for the 2014 England Golf Amateur Championship. The proud host of the 2012 E.G.U. Mid-Amateur Logan Trophy, Tom Burley was victorious and hosted the 1932 British Ladies Championship which was won by Miss Enid Wilson.
